IBBC’s Agritech Comittee Takes the Lead
In a groundbreaking move, the Iraq Britian Business Council (IBBC) has recently established an Agritech Committee, signalling a pivotal moment for Iraq’s agricultural sector.
Under my teams leadership, the committee is poised to revolutionize farming practices in the region, focusing on ‘AI Driven Agriculture and Sustainable use of Fertilisers’ for its inaugural project.

AI-Powered Agriculture for Iraq’s Revitalization
With over 20% of Iraqs population employed in agriculture, and the country once being a powerhouse of farming in the region, new practices and the countries rich natural resources of fertilizers offer huge potential for economic growth, food security and a fertile land to utilize modern technology.

We have so far discussed and soon to implement;
- Mapping Farmland with AI : The committee pland to leverage AI-driven soil testing to map Iraq’s farmland comprehensively. The innovative approach will help determine the specific types and quantities of fertilizers needed to achieve optimal yields.
- Drawing on international best practices and in particular British technological expertise, the initiative aims to deploy cutting-edge technologies to enhance Iraq’s food production significantly. I will bring together IBBC Members and external experts to develop a comprehensive plan for implementation.
Challenges that we face
Although Iraq has a history of being one of the worlds most fertile countries, it has faced a substantial decline in it’s agricultural sector in recent decades. There are many well discussed reasons for this, but in Particular conflict and economic shifts have played a massive part in this decline. After years of internal and regional struggles and a shift towards an export-based oil economy, the once-flourashing agricultural landscaped has been neglected.
International Collaboration for Agricultural Resurgence
Through engaging with stakeholders, the IBBC has actively engaged with various stakeholders, including members, UK and international institutions, and government bodies such as the Iraqi ministry of Agriculture and the Kurdish Regional Ministry of Agriculture and Water Resources ( who we recently had very productive meetings with in London).
Most exciting has been the interest from international partners. Collaborations with institutions such as the Agri Epi Centre, Henry Doubleday Centre, British Water and the World Food Programme are all bringing outstanding expertise to Iraq’s agricultural revival.
A Turning Point for Iraq’s Agriculture and a Fertile Testing Ground.
With a combination if technological innovation, international collaboration and with my dedicated leadership, the initiative holds the promise of revitalizing Iraq’s agricultural sector, steering towards an exciting and prosperous future.
Conclusion: A Turning Point for Iraq’s Agriculture
The establishment of the IBBC Agritech Committee marks a turning point for Iraq’s agriculture. With a blend of technological innovation, international collaboration, and dedicated leadership, the initiative holds the promise of revitalizing Iraq’s agricultural sector, steering it towards a prosperous future.
